We know the importance of boiler system in industries like power plants. If abnormal operation occurs, it may explode and be dangerous to nearby people and the environment. Therefore, apart from the boiler, the supporting parts should also be taken care of.

The most important device in the boiler system is the safety valve and pressure relief valve. In this article, we examine the concept of the pressure relief valve in the boiler system.

Boiler pressure relief valve

As its name suggests, it is a valve that reduces the pressure in the system by increasing the pressure. and brings the system to a safe level of performance.

The pressure of water or gas in the pipeline may increase many times. This can be due to choked pipelines, damaged tanks, irregular passage of cooling water through the tank or defects in the expansion tanks.

In this case, some change in pressure increase is acceptable.

But too much increase in pressure can disrupt the operation of the boiler system.

In this case, a valve is used to reduce the pressure near the boiler, which removes excess water or gas and thus returns the pressure to normal.

It has a set pressure that is normal pressure. When this value is exceeded, the valve opens and transfers the incoming medium to the outgoing pipeline.

And it stays open until the pressure is normal. As soon as the pressure drops, the valve closes again.

How does the safety valve work?

A pressure reducing valve has four main components: stem, valve cap, spring and valve seal

The pressure inside the valve is adjusted according to the process after starting or holding the valve.

Under normal operating conditions, the valve will be closed and there will be no connection between the inlet and outlet pipelines.

As soon as the pressure starts to rise, the valve seal pushes the stem first.

The spindle is the main mechanical moving part and is responsible for pushing most of the spring.

When the spring starts to compress, the connection between the inlet and outlet starts to open. The higher the pressure, the greater the force on the spring and the wider the connection.

Because of this, additional media from the input pipeline flows into the media of the output pipeline when the connection is opened. This starts to reduce the pressure.

As soon as the pressure begins to decrease, the spring begins to recover to its original position, pushing the spindle back. When the pressure is completely normal, the spring is fully restored and the connection between the inlet and outlet is finally closed.

The safety valve is very important and should be checked regularly. Also, the valve should always be placed near the boiler for better performance.

Advantages of using boiler pressure relief valve

The first and most important main advantage is that the boiler system remains safe from any untoward incident. This is because the pressure in the system as a whole is maintained. High pressure can damage the boiler system in the long run.

If the safety valve is used, the maintenance cost of the boiler system is greatly reduced. Otherwise, replacing the boiler system or doing other work will be expensive.

When a boiler pressure relief valve is used, it means that your system is working according to safety standards and regulations.
